Marissa and Darren’s Indiana wedding had guest experience at top of mind! A traditional experience with all of the personal touches that really highlighted the couple’s personality and family lifestyle. I had the honor of being the wedding planner on this event with a 10 week deadline – such a feat and accomplishment for all of the vendors involved!

I designed and printed the stationery in deep navy with gold foil accents. I commissioned an artist to create a custom crest with items that represented them as people. The artist sketched Marissa’s dog, a heart and cross joined, the air force symbol for Darren, and a kiwi bird as Darren’s family is from New Zealand. Just because it was a quick turnaround did not mean we wouldn’t pump in the personality that Satin & Stems is known for delivering!

Our beauty team had a welcome challenge of 22 ladies in-house for our getting ready experience. Luckily, the bride had a beautiful downtown rental property to house them for this. Makeup from Raye Beauty Co. and hair companies – Beauty and the Braid for our bride and bridal party, then Hair by Laken for the nieces and family.

The couple met at The War Memorial in Indianapolis to share a first-look and take couple portraits.

Then, we hired a classic 1938 Cadillac Fleetwood Model 75 and driver to bring the couple to Woodstock Country Club.

Our bride loved green hydrangeas! I paired a modern floral design with the classic look of this venue by creating sculptural floral art with all of the wedding flowers. I chose to place groupings down the aisle to accent the curves of the aisle. This allowed our wedding party to exit the front door of the house and follow a winding path to the altar. having the curved aisle allowed every guest to be accommodated and gave everyone a good visual of the altar!

Up on the altar area, I designed a multi-height and multi-dimensional backdrop containing silk fabric, gold metal framework, and those hydrangeas in the full color palette.

The couple loved to compete, and we had custom cornhole boards made with their logo in the center, and the guests all signed them as the guest book.
The entire lawn of the country club was utilized for this large guest count. 275 attended this event and we didn’t lack in things for them to partake in.

They were then welcomed with champagne as asked to sit in our curved aisle chair design to await the beginning of the ceremony.

Cocktail Hour

I designed a room under the front porch of the venue to create Marissa’s own lounge for her friends that called themselves “The Cigar Caucus”. A wall of shelves with a graphic created for them held all of their favorite cigars, cutters, ash trays, and some favorite liqueurs. At the end of the “porch”, I made sure to include a tailored Bourbon Bar for the cigar lounge that served individually smoked Old Fashioned cocktails. It was a full room all night!

Wedding Reception
The Woodstock Club is historic here in Indianapolis, and the building is beautiful. However, the couple wanted the wedding reception to be designed in a way that modernized the vibe of the room. They also wanted things to feel a little more masculine since the crown molding and paintings in the room lent to a more feminine feel. Challenge accepted!

Dark blue and gold were the primary colors I used to bring in that masculinity, and then I softened it by using a slightly-sparkly overlay with monochromatic details. Underneath the see-through overlay, I put a light blue satin tablecloth which created the perfect shade of blue to compliment our flowers.
Isolating flower types into groups and vases is another way I kept things modern. Then, incorporating a large number of elevated hydrangea arrangements to draw color upward in the already full room helped tie everything together.

The dinner was spectacular and guests were treated to a multi-choice meal.
As a special surprise during dinner, the father of the groom – who was the best man – had a video recording play instead of a speech. He was so honored to be the best man, and the heartfelt message had everyone moved beyond words. I was also honored to get to help pull off this big and meaningful surprise.

Outdoor Wedding Reception
As the sun went down, we created a magical experience outside for everyone to return to. This included a tree filled with twinkle lights, a s’more fire pit, a cornhole tournament (complete with trophies!), a lit dance floor and DJ, a Bourbon Bar and Cigar Lounge, a large dessert table, and the pièce de résistance – an epic professional fireworks show set to some of the couple’s favorite music.

A whirlwind of amazing experiences, and the best start to a life together!
